    Random Shutdowns

Hi guys......Well my pc is getting old i...admit....
But am i meant to expect it to randomly shut down? (Well just restart without going through the shutdown proceedure?)

Any way its randomly shutingdown.... .luckily not often.
I would understand if it ran out Of RAM but it does it when it has around 300Mb to spare

    Any advice?

Are you running any particular software or doing anything specific when it shuts down?

        Hi

It could be happening due to any reason such as:

1- Your Hard disk has bad sectors, which causes your computer to shutdown when you open a heavy application or run many programs at the same time - Run Scandisk to find out and if you see many bad sectors, it could be a reason for you to change your Hard disk.

2- You might have a virus on your PC that periodically shutdowns your PC - Ru nFull virus Scan with latest Antivirus

3- You run a software that requires a lot of memory or fast CPU and you r Pc havn't got that much?

        4- etc

        Regards
        Qi

After testing the above suggestions you can open the case use can air to blow out the dust and then push on the memory and expansion cards to see if any of them have creep out a little bit. Check your cables to make sure they are all tight.

Have you checked your event logs?
Both Application and System? (Maybe security, but I doubt it)

Right click on mycomputer on the desktop and choose manage. Then go to the event viewer section.

Or select event viewer from the administrater tools.

Or enter this into the Run dialog:
                    Code:
                    %SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

                        Hi

Did you run Full Hard Disk scan , what did you find out about your hdd?

Are you running a UPS by the way, is it working in good condition?

                        Experts,
I have found a brief on the Event Ids Daniel has provided:

                        Event ID: 4307
Initialization failed because the transport refused to open initial Addresses.

                        Event ID: 2000
Unable to open mapped file containing APC driver performance data.

Could any expert throw some light on these events and thier cause?

                        Regards
                        Qi

Well APC is a UPS manufacturer and APC UPS support comes built into windows. If it got turned on, you could very well reboot the system on accident.

Well, I just think that this problem MAY be caused by some virus. And you can probably very easily find that.

Simply run AVAST free Anti virus (search google for it's download link ) and while installing it on your PC make sure you select an option something like - "AVAST BOOT TIME SCAN". So once system restarts after complete installation of AVAST it will scan your PC for any of virus (if present) before Windows OS completes BOOT procedure. It's very effective approach, so try it.
