You can either nohup or detach a process. You can try using some terminal multiplexer (google tmux or screen) and then detaching the terminal before you logout. -

Isn't reinterpret_cas t only for C++? because I had never done so in C. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And yeah, I'm writing code in C for this task....Leave a comment:

Conversion between datatypes on basis of blocks of bytes
I have an array of 32 elements of type 'unsigned char' (i.e. 32 bytes).
I'll like to store first 4 bytes of this array in a 'unsigned long', next 4 bytes in another 'unsigned long' and so on. Any ideas about how do I perform this?
I'm personally thinking that I need to do something like left shifting and then masking repeatedly but I don't get it right.
Another idea in my mind is to use uint32_t (C99) for this purpose.... -
And why do you need to do this?
Anyways, Boot into some linux live CD, mount the partition that contains XP and access the folder. Easy, Isn't it?Leave a comment:

Another reason why experts recommend not to run two or more anti-viruses at the same time is because very frequently it happens that one of AV flags virus database of another one as malicious. This can be confusing and irritating most of times.
I would rather recommend that you install one antivirus on your XP installation and keep a copy of ClamWin Portable in some folder (of preferably some USB drive).Leave a comment:

I found on Google that there are lots of 'bookmarks merge/synchronize applications'.
A google search for firefox + bookmarks + merge or firefox + bookmarks + synchronize will reveal loads of similar applications.
Thanks anyways...Leave a comment:

I was wrong here. Windows XP has a command to encrypt/decrypt user data. It is called 'cipher'. 'cipher /?' at cmd to read more....Leave a comment:

1. Yes, admin accounts by default have no password if you didn't entered one when Windows was installed. (iirc, Windows installer prompts you for a administrator account password during installation).
OFcourse, you can always set a password from User Accounts in Control Panel (if you have proper permissions).

The purpose of Administrator (root account in *nix) accounts is to administrate important system specific actions on a PC. Don't use them for day to day tasks.
If you login to an account on windows with administrative (or higher) privileges, then all programs that are run by user are executed with Administrator (or higher) privileges (including malwares that can use autorun/autostart techniques to execute without you knowledge). So,...Leave a comment:

There are a few ways to do this:
1. Make files on device unreadable recursively using -r option of 'attrib' command.
2. TweakUI allows to hide a storage device from Mycomputer an all places. I expect that if modifies some registry value for this (although this is a per computer setting and doesnot actually makes pendrive unreadable).
3. Encrypt all data on your pendrive using some symmetric cipher based program. But this...Leave a comment:

Thanks gits.
I'll try this sometime tomorrow and will reply back when I get time.
And yeah, sorry for late reply. I'm not able to visit bytes frequently as I'm busy with my college :( studies.Leave a comment:

I agree with sashi on this.
For example see this. The section "Failures in Detection (Last 24 Hours)" tells that a every malware detection tool fail to detect a great number of malicious files.
Therefore, no one can boast that a particular application is perfect, all in one, best malware detection tool. All we can tell you are personal opinions from our experiences. And as I always say: "Opinions have an inherent...Leave a comment:
