as i said ... without serving a purpose it would be better to leave the rotating icons idea just make icons smooth and good looking in 2D ... i remember some ideas of 3D desktops that never made it to a real product ;) ... we all know that todays machines could handle a lot of such eyecandy stuff ... and without it you will never be successful with a new product may be an OS nor any other 'ugly' application ... no matter what features it will provide ... eyecandy is a must! ... the question is: how much is enough? ... when you find a good reason for 3D icons and you would implement it in a way that doesn't hurt performance too much ... then it would be an advantage ... since our life is 4D and may be you could create some intuitive or more natural feeling for the user with a 3D desktop ... but!!! ... we have learned already to use abstractions ... so there is no real need to make it more natural ... so it would be of great importance that a new OS would provide features that the others have not :) ... and! here we are back at the point that an OS is not the gui of it ... but its a great part that is responsible for its success ... since the gui provides access to the OS's functions ... take open darwin ;) ... apple wouldn't be successful without the slick and cool OSX aqua-gui that is on top of darwin :) ... and even the mac-machines are eyecandy itself :) but all of it with a max of usability ... and that is what makes it that cool ...

I have to agree, the Mac is eye-candy. Apple had a perfectly good line of computers going before they decided to create the Mac. But as far as the user interface is concerned, the difference was like going from DOS prompt to Windows 95.

EDIT: After reading that back, I want to say that I don't mean the Mac ruined Apple computers. The Mac replaced the existing Apple II line.

... i don't know what was some years ago ... todays mac's are really competitive ... even in pricing and much more in its usability. i used an ibook G4 for some years and now a macbook ... and i even used some pc-notebooks ... and i would certainly say that using the macs is much preferable for me then the pc-notebooks:

          - performance is the same or better - have a look here where we see that a macbook pro ironically was the fastest vista notebook
          - batteries - i never had a pc-notebook that has a battery-cycle more then 3-4h - the macs always does that
          - powercord - the mac poweradapter has nice little clips to wind the cord around and there is no mess when you carry it with you ...
          - always good displays
          - nice and easy and robust OS ... with some little things you don't want to miss when you once had it :) ...

but i think it is always up to the user ... i like todays macs ... but i know people who said they hate it ;) ... and of course ... one point to mention: apple makes some strange decisions with software policies, copyrights, patents etc. ... but anyway :) i like them ... and you may throw a rock on me for that :D ...

          kind regards

ps: ahhh and who doesn't find that new macbook air quite smart?

So about WINE. Why you don't like to send me. In our country 98 % of the all CD's are illegal(pirater ies). So i have more than 200 cd's taht are illegal and don't have a licence. We use a carcks , keygens and other. My originaly CD's are just my Drivers for the computer , but i have some illegal. I start to collect drivers for computer and i plan to collect all the drivers i can. Why ??? Because when i'm reparing the computers (I reinstal computer to people for a free) I don't need the internet to download or If the people don't have the driver CD (When you buy computer they give the the drivers cd).

Because you can't just install wine from a cd (hmmm, maybe I should count how many times that is said already). If you don't believe it, go see for yourself.(click the distro for what you want the instructions)

That fact that criminals are common in your country doesn't make it something to be proud of.
