  • Hi,

    Can you ping the printers?

I am assuming you are not using managed switches? e.g. cisco and just a 24 port freecom "switch"

    Cheers!

howdy do! try setting a LAN address on the computer with the internet e.g. 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 with no default gateway. now set up the computer without the internet with 192.168.0.2 with same subnet but stick the default gateway as the ip address of the computer with working internet address! try that. a friend of mine had the same problem at home, he was using a usb modem and had an xbox 360, and a laptop & pc.i had done the...

    try the following....

right click my computer, manage, device manager, make sure there are no yellow exclamation or questions marks saying anything along the lines of "ethernet controller".

right click my computer, manager, and under event viewer, make sure there nothing in there about hardware failure for the particular NIC.

check both ends of the ethernet cable are plugged in securely. replace...

you will need to set up a group on the isa server which allows the users to connect through the proxy to the outside world. then you will have to setup a coresponding group in your active directory which links back to the group you have created on your ISA server. if like you said, all the clients require internet access, assuming your have a main domain group policy (more than likely) you can create the settings in there to point towards the group...

the is a group policy which you can create, which automatically enters proxy details, and you can set this up for specific times of the day. setup a user group, and stick the domain accounts in there!

sounds like a dns error to me. check that the slipstream and netgear routers both have the same dns entries. im assuming (wrongfully ass u me) that the slipstream router is the outside router? try dokolls idea of setting a static ip for the vista machine. try nslookup <domainname> from the vista machine, if the dns is configured correctly, it should find the 192.168.0.3 address. if it doesnt let us know what it says. also, in IIS you may need...

ahh right, though thats what you meant? although, do you not mean active directory? if this is what you meant then the answer is yeah. you can install the local administrative tools for administering a windows server 2003 on your xp machine. in there you can great all kinds of mmc's for other users, e.g. create a password reset for a particular team, with only the team leader having access to do so. also, a thing we use, is you can reset passwords...

  • download and create a new windows xp cd using a little program called nLite http://www.nliteos.com/download.html . Ironically, this was only found by our team when windows released a new OS, typical hey? however, this allows you to take your xp media cd, and add new drivers, and updates. what we done in work was made a standard cd with all the latest updates, popped in sata controllers, and scripts for our group policies... now if a computer crashes...

raid 0+1 & raid 1+0 is set for miniumum 4 disk, which is probably what the bios recognised when you had the 4 disks in to begin with. raid 3, 4 & 5 are used for 3 disk minimum, check your configuration is setup for either 3 4 or 5. probably what is wrong. (raid 3 & 4 is dedicated parity) (raid 5 is distributed parity). hopefully this should get ya going!

replied to PCAnywhere going through a proxy.
i strongly doubt PC anywhere will go through a proxy as most proxies only allow port 80. unless your techies have allowed more ports (however, cannot see any viable reasons as to why)! it uses a mixture of udp, and tcp ports. port 22 (udp) & port 5632 (udp) are used to "ping" the host if this is successful then a connection is made using ports 5631 (tcp) & 65301 (tcp). get your techies to check firewall, and they should see everything...
