I have had this exact same problem with an existing USB drive I had. I think it results from pulling it out from the port before something has finished saving, or the 'safely remove' feature not working correctly.
I took it to numerous places and tried many data recovery techniques on it -- but I ended up losing my data which I was foolish enough to have only one copy of (on the drive).

Hi, I also have a 2.00GHz processor in my Compaq notebook. I suspect that mine is reducing its "clock speed" most of the time also, and seem to remember the 800MHz figure from a manual or something....

One option is to obtain an XP pro install CD somehow, then do a clean install (i.e. completely remove media centre from your system, then install XP).
Another option is to pay extra to get XP pro on the computer when you buy it, as an upgrade (somebody already mentioned this I believe).

Like kestrel said, use ActionScript 2.0 -- the Macromedia Flash MX or Flash 8 IDE is a good place to start (then embed the flash files into your website); look on the 'net for tutorials.
Just use HTML for the website. No need for anything particularly complex as it sounds like it's just a personal site - and it'll take you a long time to learn another language.
