Need admin password or make user administrator without restart

    Hey guys,

I have a PC that is loaded with a program that restores the Windows XP image (Linux based, don't know the name) which restores the the OS from an image with each reboot, similar to those seen in college labs etc.

So all attempts to use BART or my other bootable-CD password reset utilities are useless. I have only access to a limited account (can't install programs) but I have command prompt and storage to folders owned by this user.

Without reformatting, is it possible to make this limited user admin to reset the real administrator password or crack the administrator password. (Person has given up on remembering the administrator password)

Any pointers are greatly appreciated. I'd rather not reformat. Don't know how to reload that Linux re-imaging software back on.

    Thanks,

    Dan

PS: I'm not trying to hack, my intentions are not evil at all.

    Hi Dan!
Recovering a Windows password is a difficult request for this forum - not because the answer were difficult, but because it could be used in a malicious way, even if YOU don't intend to do so. So I'll just tell you, that Google provides solutions to your problem when using relatively obvious search terms.

    Greetings,
    Nepomuk

Yeah.....it is possible. But then as nepomuk said, answering this question is against posting guidelines. And so, simply search google for more help.

Thanks guys, Wasn't sure it was.

I always Google, and this time i found it difficult to weave through all the reset password schemes that required a restart.

I should have known things like these shouldn't be out in the open, but you can however give me a link or PM me to point me in a direction.

Any specific Google keywords that may lead me to a result you guys have seen? (besides obvious keywords like "Reset Administrator Password Without Restart" )

Such as the name of a specific registry key if registery alteration is part of the procedure? etc...

        Thanks,

        Dan

couldn't you enter bios and force to computer to boot to a CD rom, so you can use your password reset cd's? Why are you unable to use those cds?

The Problem then would be, that with every restart of the system, the password would be reset. So even if he changes it successfully, it would be back to where it was, when he restarts to get into Windows.

As far as I know, the problem has been solved now, but to make sure we keep everything here legal, I'd ask nobody to post any solution here.

@nepomuk : I am not posting any solution here. Instead I would like to ask why you are saying that the password will get reset once the OP logs into windows?
Also, if you feel like violating the posting guidelines then we may communicate via PM.

              Thanks....

Have a close look at the OP:

That's why. (Well, actually it's reset BEFORE Windows is started, but that doesn't really matter here.)

And no, I don't think it's against the posting guidelines to point this out again. :-D

Oh OK...I almost forgot about it. That explains your last reply and you can now forget my last reply :)

                  Thanks.....

                      that might help!

I just found something about windows password reset methods.
It also support windows 7 password reset.
Those all are free and very helpful!
