    Windows installer crashes

    Hello.

I have this strange problem when installing autocad lt 2006. Or actually I´m creating an administrative image when I´m trying to deploy the CAD. So the problem is this:
First when I started to install I get runtime erors. There were about 10 different Error: <xxx> is not defined. I managed to solve this problem by fixing the IE registry. But now I´m very stuck and banging my head to the wall.

When I register the cad, the installer says "please wait while windows configures AutoCad LT 2006" and this message is displayed about 30-45 minutes and the progressbar do not even appear. Then after loooooong waiting another message is shown: "installer is no longer responding". WHAT?
    So please someone help me.

Oh yeah here is something I have already tried.
First I ran services.msc and choosed the windows installer. Then
I changed the startup type from manual to disabled.---> reboot
Next I cleared all temp files in both locations C:\windows\temp
    and C:\documents and settings\<usern ame>\local settings\temp
Then I changed startup type back to manual --->reboot
    Next installing..... nope.

    Next choice.
I went to msconfig and choose the selective startup and allow the windows installer to start. --->reboot
Now install...... and believe it or not.... NO it wont work.

If someone could help me I would be soooo crateful.

Check out the microsoft's documentation in the link below------>

    LINK

Although it deals with Windows installer errors when installing MS-OFFICE, but if you closely analyse the page you will find the solution to your problem (Check the heading "RESOLUTION " for solution to your problem in the link above).

If you still face problem, tell me. I will then tell you how to do it.

Thanks a lot AmbrNewlearner. Could you give me an advise where I can make these modifications?

"change the permissions on the Installer folder to
      Everyone - Read (RX)
      Administrators - FullControl
      SYSTEM - FullControl"

      thanks again

This reply is with the consideration that you are on Windows XP. If you are on some other Operating System i.e. OS [e.g VISTA], then tell me as these steps might be different for your OS and then I will reply for specific OS.

_Note_: I assume that you are using Windows XP on a domain. By default, simplified sharing is enabled in Windows XP if you are not connected to a domain. This means that the Security tab and advanced options for permissions are not available.

If you are not joined to a domain and want to view the Security tab, then follow these steps----------->
        1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
        2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
        3. Click the View tab, and then click to clear the Use simple file sharing [Recommended] check box in the Advanced settings box.

        • To view or change special permissions for an existing group or user, click the name of the group or user, and then click Edit.
        • To remove an existing group or user and the special permissions, click the name of the group or user, and then click Remove. If the Remove button is unavailable, click to clear the Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here check box, click Remove, and then skip steps 4 and 5.

        4. In the Permissions box, click to select or click to clear the appropriate Allow or Deny check box.

Well, I "probably" now know the nature of the problem. Visit the links below to know more about the problem and to troubleshoot this problem-------->

Now, remember the information in above links may seem quite technical to you, if you are not a computer expert. If so, tell me so that I will then help you to troubleshoot the problem you are facing.

Thanks for the advice again, but it did not solve my problem.

Let me describe the problem more accurate. So I´m trying to deploy autoCad 2006 LT so that ours comppany workers can install cad in their personal computers in silent mode. So your expections were wrong I´m afraid.
I have done this deployment to autoCad 2008 LT and that worked just fine, no major problems. But now with 2006 LT I´m still banging my head to the wall...

When I ran the deployment wizard for the first time I got several run time errors. When I downloaded IE7fix-reg file that problem was solved. Now when I run the deployment wizard everything working fine untill I click the finish button after making all the registration etc.. I get "please wait while windows configures autocad LT 2006". After a long waiting "Installer is no longer respondig" message pops up.

And also I checked autodesk support pages to help but no luck. (or atleast I didn´t find any) So if you have some solution in your mind for my problem I would appreciate it very very much.

              Thanks again.

                HUH.......
OK, try all the following solution (if anyone of them could help)---------->
                _______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _____
                1. Verify that these folders, no longer exist on the target computer.

The Windows Deployment Wizard creates and uses the folders listed below during the deployment process. If a previous deployment was abnormally terminated, these folders may still exist on the target computer. If these folders are not removed, the process will continue from the point where the process abnormally terminated instead of starting from the beginning. Remove these folders, if they exist, before initiating deployment. These folders exist on os_drive (where os_drive is the drive where the operating system is installed).

I think OS drive on target might be either C:\windows or C:\windows\syst em32.

So delete following folders in os_drive--->

                (1) FOLDER------->os_drive:\MINI NT
This folder is preserved through the deployment process and contains deployment state information (such as users state migration information and log files).

                (2) FOLDER-------->os_drive:\_SMS TaskSequence
This folder contains state information specific to Task Sequencer.
