Windows XP Pro vs XP Media Centre 2005

    Hi,

need to have a new notebook and want to avoid Vista. XP pro is my favourite but hard to get on a notebook. I can get XP Media Centre 2005 but not interested in entertainment.

Is it possible to upgrade the Media Centre version to XP Pro as someone suggested?

    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem when I bought my recent desktop. I bought from Dell who loaded XP Pro on the machine for a small extra cost.

You should be able to upgrade from Media to XP Pro but if you get Vista you have a problem.

Well, I would just go with the Vista. I have it, and it works great, as long as you have the right hardware. Since every major computer company manufacturer only has Vista on they're new computers, it will be very hard to find one that doesn't have it.

Get an HP laptop, they're the best. If you buy it online, you can customize it and get whatever you want for YOUR needs, instead of buying it from a store. Besides, you don't know if the store dropped it or something went wrong in the packaging.

One option is to obtain an XP pro install CD somehow, then do a clean install (i.e. completely remove media centre from your system, then install XP).

Another option is to pay extra to get XP pro on the computer when you buy it, as an upgrade (somebody already mentioned this I believe).

Another alternative is to just go with Vista anyway. Although by doing that, you are making it very hard to move back to XP if you are not impressed with the new OS.
