DVD/Cd burner doesn't work correctly after trying to copy an DVD

I want to safe a backup file of Norton Ghost 10.0 to a DVD but after making the image the dvd stops working.
First i changed the entire systeem by going back to an backup of 9 days. That didn't work.
I installed Ghost 10.0 again, i visited the website of Dell and downloaded new firmware for my dvd an the problem is still the same.
I checked my computer with a rootkitrevealer but it revealed nothing.

I have a brand new system (40 days old), Windows XP Media in the Dutch language. The dvd is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA -H31N
The error code that appears in Ghost 10.0 is E7D1001F.

When i want to copy a file, with Explorer, from my files i get a error form Windows saying "it encountered a problem by copying this file." "Try again, skip or stop".

All this sh*t happend after i tryed to copy a dvd for my son of the cartoonDVD Cars. I think some software is installed on my computer that stop all activity when trying to make a copy or burning a dvd.
Is there someone able to help, i am really despered.
And sorry if me English isn't perfect.

I great way to troubleshoot this kind of thing is to us msconfig.
From the Start Menu, go to Run; type msconfig.
In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Services tab.
On that page click the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
Feel free to turn off anything suspicious (espcially Norton whaterver) which remains showing. You may go as far as using the Disable All button.
On the Startup tab, you may do similar disabling.

Next restart your computer. You will get an alert warning you that you have disabled some things. It's prabably a good idea to allow this message to persist so that you don't forget about this procedure.
In the case of disable one thing at a time, if the problem has gone away, you have found the culprit as it will be that last thing that you disabled. Otherwise, start turning things back on until the problem re-occures.
The options once you have found the problem include keeping it disabled here (and maybe disabling the reminder), removal of that software, using administrative tools to disable (I usually set states to Manual here) the service, etc.

Your english is quite good. I'm glad that you have found this site. I hope that we can help you further if this does not work for you.

Though it may be obvious (I have failed to mention) you need to Apply changes using that button.

          Thanks for your advice!

I followed your advice and came across 3 possible threats. In services 'ProtexisLicens ing', in startup 'Jusched' and 'upDreg'.

I stoped there activity. The problem seemed to be solved. With Explorer i can copy a file of a folder to e:/ to burn a dvd. I thought that it was to easy. And indeed.
I started up Norton Ghost and made a attempt to archive a backup to a dvd (e:/) and a imagefile was made on the dvd and after that the same problem accured.
It stopped the burningprocess. And with Explorer i can not copy a file of folder to e:/.
I closed my system and started up, looking at the boot by pressing f12. I looked at al the settings but there was nothing unusually. So i started up my system, without starting 'ProtexisLicens ing, jusched en upDreg' and i can once again copy files of a folder to e:/.

But the problem will start, most likely, when i try to archive a backup of Ghost, and, of course, this is really necessarry.

I also installed Hijackthis and i see nothing strange but may be it will help to solve my problem so here is a log file.

Sorry that I can't be of more assistance. I can say that JUSched is OK. That is Java Update Scheduler. Ghost seems to be blocking something after it runs, so I'd go to their Tech Support with this issue.

Thanks anyway. I already contacted their Tech Support 3 days ago but because they have a lot of cases it would take a few days before they could answer me. And i wanted to do as much as possible so that they can't say 'did you check your settings of something''. Now i did as much as i possibly can, with your help.

              Happy newyear

                  Hi there Mr Dutchman,

Does your problem solved? I checked out the internet and the error code you have given E7D1001F which means "Unable to write to the file. This error can occur if you do not have the correct rights. However, it could also be caused by slow bandwidth, dropped packets, or other network-related issues."

Try logging-in as an administrator so that you may have enough rights to right the image files.

                  hope this helps.

Uninstalling Mcaaafeee and using nero burning rom software to do backup will most likely solve your problem. Also if the files you are trying to backup are system files they maybe protected so disabling system restore for that one time you are backing up is suggested.

Good luck with tech support =)

Thanks for your reply. I logged in as Administrator. By right clicking on 'my computer' an d going to the servies i also set the useres tot backup operaters.

I sent more then 20 e-mails to symantec but never got a reaction. So good job symantec, i will probably buy more symantec software.. NOT!!
I tryed to go back with windows system restore, the problem is still the same.

I tryed to burn music on a cd and it worked. So it looks like the problem only accure with dvd.

Could it help to reinstall microsoft .net framework?
                      Or reinstall the dvd driver?

                      Thanks in advance.

I still suspect that Ghost is your problem. I have never liked Norton Utilities. I like Cyber's idea of trying Nero.

I got sick of it so i formatted c: and installed everything except Norton Ghost.

End of problem. Never Norton software ever again.
