How do I remove white space around an icon? I have been using some helpful icon pics from google images to spice up a website that I'm making. In many instances though, the icon is not square, but irregularly shaped, leaving white space to make a square around the icon. In one case, I was using a 16 x 16 gif image of a movie reel (a round object) but I could not get rid of the white space around the object. How can I do this?

You need to delete the white space and make it transparent.
i.e. use the eraser tool, and delete the white space.
I'm not sure it this can be done in MS paint, so you might have to use photoshop or another image editing program that can handle transparency
once you have deleted the white space, save the image as a transparent gif, and then use this new image to convert into an icon. -
ehh, thanks for the answer... I do only have mspaint, and I know it can't be done there. That program has about as many functions as my little sisters tricycle. I need to pick up a copy of photoshop this week. It's like $90 right? And I had another question:Originally posted by nitinpatel1117You need to delete the white space and make it transparent.

When you see all those crazy pictures people have made and edited using photoshop, can that stuff be done in Elements 6? Or do you need the huge CS3 version to do anything cool?Comment

True. I do have Ubuntu, which comes with GIMP. I'll take a look.Originally posted by gitsi don't know ps elements ... but before paying something you might have a look at GIMP which is an openSource alternative to photoshop and which should be more than enough for the most things ...

Photoshop Elements is around $90 but Photoshop itself (CS3) is $650.
Most people don't need Photoshop and The Gimp does everything you're most likely to need and almost everything Photoshop does.Comment
