Hi all,
I have been given a task to create a website for my company's intranet. The site would have about 40 pages or so. After doing all the requirements analysis and keeping in the mind the development environment I am used to, I have decided that I will be using asp (not asp.net) for development. VBScript will be used for both client-side and server-side scripting.

Having said that I would like to come to my problem now. My problem is that for creating web pages (HTML) which tool should I use. Earlier, I have used Microsoft Frontpage and it worked quite well, but this time I have to make a very advanced, sleek kind of pages. Over the years, I have realized that frontpage is OK if you want to make a normal site without too much of decoration. Major problem is of layouts. I confess that I have been using tables to create layouts for years now. I know this is not the correct way to do it. But now its too late for me to first learn css layout techniques and then implement them in my site. I have to deliver the product within 30 days.

I want a tool to create nice looking HTML pages which can be build quickly without too much of hassle. As far as scripting is concerned I am comfortable and confident about that.

Firstly if you want a rapid development environment, and the most common one these days is dreamweaver.

Microsoft has Expression Web, including a free version, and HTML-Kit is very good, too, but the problem now is that you have to spend development time trying to learn these tools. Such things provide minimal support for actual mark up writing and are more useful for organization.

If you want to just start creating pages, especially with your time limit, Notepad in Windows, or vi/vim in Linux/BSD will do just as well. Or any simple editor.

However, if you need an automatic code generator, I don't recall if Expression Web does that like Dreamweaver does. Do NOT use FrontPage; it produces horrible markup. But all automatic generators need some editing of their output.

Of course, there is Visual Studio, where you can do both html and asp and vb in one environment. I do not know if it supports plain asp any longer, though (since MS is moving on to the .NET stuff).
