The Gentoo Wiki has some really good howto articles on various things. Granted, they're very gentoo oriented, but with a little effort, you can modify them for any distro.

You might also want to check your permissions on your files & folders. I find that most of the time this is where the problem lies.Leave a comment:

As long as the machine is in the same workgroup or domain, you can access a share by using: \\Machinename\\ SharenameLeave a comment:

In Linux, nothing appears when you type in a password, but rest assured, the field is accepting input.
If you're going through installation, it may be asking you to create a user, not log in as a user. Try entering a new username and password.Leave a comment:

It's been my experience that most scripts in Fantastico are out of date, and usually have security flaws. I can understand why they wouldn't allow you to run certain scripts that may hog system resources, but not allowing any script aside from what's in Fantastico? Ugh. Find another host, my friend.Leave a comment:

Still doesn't get the info he needs from /etc/hosts. It'd require a couple commands, or a small script to do that....Leave a comment:

grep merely searches, and outputs info it finds from whatever you feed it. It's probably no help here.
ifconfig should give you 95% of what you're looking for.
Are you looking to have it nicely formatted or something? You'll probably need to write a bash or perl script to do that.Leave a comment:

Did you check your error_log file to see what it says? Sometimes it will give you more info about a 500 error.Leave a comment:
