The problem is weird to me as well, particularly as the two machines are so similar in all respects that should have any bearing on this problem.

Yes, almost identical, Intel P4 3.2 and P4 3.4. The biggest difference between the two machines is the size and number of local hard drives (2 each 100 gig SATA on new machine, 1 60 gig ATA on old) and the video subsystem on the new is hugely better than the one on the old machine.

I'm moving to a new computer, both running XP Pro SP2 w/latest live updates from MS. Both have full Office 2003 packages installed. When the install disk autoruns the startup and when I do it manually I get the error: "setup has encountered a problems and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience." The same CD autoruns setup fine on the old machine, no errors. Tried taking the computer off line then removing all virus and firewall...
