You might be able to connect her HD to another Linux computer and try to salvage the data off of it and then do an OS re-load. -
I would suggest using a different CD and ensure it has no scratches on it. because sometimes if the media is unable to write all the data it does not install all the necessary WIN32 files.
If that does not work try using a different Hard Drive on that PC.Leave a comment:

Did you specify the exact path of the shared folder?
If you did not it might be because the parent resource does not grant those users the necessary permissions.
Are you direct sharing out the resource or are the users on an Active Directory infrastructure?Leave a comment:

That sounds like what happened. When you run the tune-up type of utilities it modifies the registry for "optimum performance" whether it does or not is up to debate.
Glad everything is all well and good though!Leave a comment:

That is actually very interesting, thank you for imputing your solution.
The only thing i can think of that would make sense to me is if you ran a registry repair from 3rd party software or a malicious intrusion occurred that manipulated the registry.
Either way I'm glad you got the problem fixed, sorry i was of no assistance.Leave a comment:

I am sorry but that is incorrect. The DNS does not hand out IP addresses it is the DHCP!
And to answer the question the DNS is a service that resides on a Server that tells client computers what the name is that associates with a IP and more. The preferred DNS is where the client will look to first for the name resolution.
The default gateway is a device that takes clients out of the internal network. For example the...Leave a comment:

I would not go with a fingerprint solution! it is much more costly to do that, instead of developing proper network security through VPN.
In addition the hardware for the fingerprinting can get expensive because you need to be able to process a minimum of 7-10 points. Any less than that there is going to most likely be problems in my opinion.Leave a comment:

I would first ping a random IP address to get a free one that has no reply. Then set the IP of your LT to static and see what the results are.
Another question I have is, do you have a server in your environment?
You might need to flush out the DHCP!!Leave a comment:

Are you browsing for the vista LT by name or IP?
Im curious if they are on the same workgroup/domain also!Leave a comment:

What OS are you running?
I am going to assume it is XP.
This might sound like a stupid question but have you tried changing the workgroup and then changing it back?
If you have and it still does not work i would flush the DNS.
The command should be as follows: ipconfig/flushdns
I hope this works for you!Leave a comment:

True, but when the phone is checking updates on a higher interval the battery will run down significantly faster.Leave a comment:

One quick and easy way to block all IE activity is to use thew Content Advisor. To do this from the IE browser go to Tools, Internet Options, click the Content Tab, under content advisor click enable or settings (depending if it has been used or not and click approved sites and enter in some bogus site and click always allowed. This will require you to set a password.
After this is all done IE will require a password for all navig...Leave a comment:

Are the PC's at your work connected to a server? If they are and it is server 03 and up it is very easy to configure. All you have to do is locate the GPO and block everything from USB to CD Drives.Leave a comment:

It sounds as if there is some kind of background application running which is eating up your processes. You need to kill the processes.
Using the shutdown -f -r -t 0 will work just fine for the time being.
Also if you do not know how to kill processes and find out what application is doing this then i suggest for the time being that you create a desktop shortcut and type in the shutdown -f -r -t 0 command in. From then...Leave a comment:

This is indeed a problem. It sounds like your win 32 files have been corrupted by the virus or issue that resulted with this problem.
I would first try to repair the OS with a Windows install disk. This can be done by inserting the Windows OS CD into the disk drive during start up. You might need to restart again at this point for the PC to start reading the CD at the proper point of the POST menu. When the restart initiates and the...Leave a comment:

The simple and easy way without thoroughly encrypting the data is to place the documents into a zipped folder.
Once the documents are in the zipped folder go into the folder and right click in the open white space to bring up the drop down menu. In the menu at the bottom it gives the option to add a password.
With this feature you can password protect all the documents that reside in the folder.
This is...Leave a comment:

.bat file question
I am in need of some serious help. I dont use visual basic but i need to write a script. I am new at this so bear with me.
I need to compose a script that on a monthly basis renames a file, drops the file in another folder and then deletes the original file. The file will be in PDF form if that makes a difference.
Is this something that can be done easily?
Please help -
The above should work but if it gets too complicated just shortcut the solution by using Net Meeting.Leave a comment:
