  • Form submission works in Firefox... but not in I.E. Go figure.

    Okay, I've got a tiny little form that works fine in Firefox, but I.E. won't let me push the button to file it. Here is the code:

    Code:
    <form method="post" action="/search_results.php">
    <table>
      <tr>
        <td valign="middle" class="gobutton">Search: <input type="text" name="srch" size="15"></td>
        <td

  • Uniform Font Sizes Across Different Browsers? A Pipe-Dream?

    Simple question:

    Can anyone suggest the "best" way to size fonts using css that will allow for consistent size between I.E. and Firefox? And Safari too, I suppose.

    Some of the fonts on my site look so much bigger in IE than they do in Firefox. Yet I can go to other websites on IE and Firefox and see fonts looking the same, so it can't be my browser configurations.

    What gives?

    Skipping problem - what am I missing?

    Hi all,

    I'm a CSS rookie, but I'm stumped. Hopefully this is something simple that I'm overlooking.

    My master/detail page generates the following html code, and I've got it formatted with CSS instead of tables. I have a wrapper that's 800px wide, and I want 4 columns of 200px. Each item is an image 160px wide, with 20px of margin on each side.

    Seems like it works for about 3 rows, then it skips a few...

    With all due respect, your post is absurd.

    You say you 'know' html and php. But you can't possibly know those things without having sat down, gotten your hands dirty up to your elbows, and created several webpages.

    Your question is like saying you 'know' the english language because you read the dictionary... and then asking us how to write a novel.

    Redirect Question

    Hi all,

    Real quick question here. I'm a rookie to site security as well as site optimization. I want to prevent people from peeping at the directories of my site - for example, www.mysite.com/images will show them a list of all the files in my images directory.

    What I did was make a simple index.html file and stuck it in that directory. All it does is redirect the user back to the main index page. Code looks like this:...

    Hi everyone,

    It's funny how much you learn while creating a website from scratch. What's not funny is stumbling across the first few bits of code you did and realizing it's absolute CRAP. I need some help fixing something that's kinda complicated (to me at least).

    At the top of my site is my main logo. I chopped this image up and spanned it across tables so that I could fit a search bar into the site. I AM using...

    Hi all,

    Well my site's finally up - four months of good advice from all areas of this forum and a few others. Please feel free to critique my site, as I'm open to advice on how to do things better, make things load faster, appear more visually pleasing, etc...

    I'd also like to hear some advice geared toward getting my site 'out there'. Aside from registering with...

    Grrrr......... God I hate IE.

    People still using IE are akin to people who used to still use AOL because they thought it was 'the internet'.

    Remember those people?

    Rookie Mistake - Should I fix it?

    Okay, don't laugh.

    My website is 99% done, and I took painstaking steps to make it look the same in IE and Firefox. Aside from some spacing issues when using the <p> tag (Firefox skips more vertical space somehow) - it all looks good.

    However... I just read somewhere that the DOCTYPE for my site should be brought to the standard 4.01. Right now, my entire website - every page - has a doctype of 1.0 Yikes....

    Which loads faster?

    Hi everyone, quick question:

    When I first started my website three months ago, I was a total rookie. I used a lot of <img> tags to create borders around things and to dress up different tables on my site.

    Later on, I set classes in a CSS external file and used the background-image: command to fill those same tables with the same images.

    So my question is: which is faster? I would think the CSS...

    Works in Firefox... not in I.E. Why?

    This is frustrating. I've got a pretty straightforward script that forces a user to select an option from the dropdown box OTHER than the defaulted "Please Select" option. It works fine in Firefox, but I.E. allows you to add the item to the shopping cart with 'Please Select' as the option. Grrrr....

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function validateAddToCart() {

    Hi everyone,

    For the past four months I've been working on a retail website. Built it from scratch, including the shopping cart, which uses a mySQL database indexed by session id. All the pages in the site are php. Everything was running smoothly, until I installed the credit card payment code.

    I opened a merchant account with Linkpoint and they supplied the gateway. I didn't like the Firefox "your data is unencrypted"...

    Access Denied (using password 'YES')

    Hi all,

    I've got a mySQL database I've been working with as my localhost for several months now, no connection problems. I'm at the point however, where I need to connect to the database from another site / different IP address.

    I'm playing around in the PayPal sandbox, and I'm running an instant payment notification php script before the user exits. The included connection file looks like this:

    Code:
    <?php

  • Okay, I actually found the answer to my own question - so I'm posting it below:

    Code:
    <?
    $tablename = "tablename";
    $next_increment = 0;
    $qShowStatus = "SHOW TABLE STATUS LIKE '$tablename'";
    $qShowStatusResult = mysql_query($qShowStatus) or die ( "Query failed: " . mysql_error() . "<br/>" . $qShowStatus );

    $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($qShowStatusResult);

  • Getting incremental ID number back after doing an INSERT?

    Hi all,

    Simple question, may be a simple answer (dunno) but here goes:

    Let's say my table's key element is "id" and it's self-incrementing. After I do an INSERT into the table... is there a way to know what the id number that was generated was? Because I want to do another INSERT into another table based upon that id number.

    Does mySQL return this value anywhere? Or is finding this id number...

    $opta[] // Option A
    $optb[] // Option B

    Why won't my function work?

    Hi all,

    I've got a simple function I can't get to work. I've got two checkboxes that are associated with two textarea inputs. I disable the text areas initially. When the associated checkbox is clicked, I want it to enable that text area... and vice versa. Like a toggle.

    My form is called pay_form. (The form actually spans several tables, in case that matters). Here's the tag for it:

    Code:
    <form ACTION="checkout3.php"
