Environment Variables in Windows 7 Are Not Editable

In the environment variables windows, the editing buttons below system variables are disabled (grayed out), though I need to edit the path variable to set up Django.

Any ideas why this problem occurs and how to fix it?

It occurs because you do not have admin privileges for the machine you are using.

However you can add a path variable to you user Environment settings, Windows should merge the 2 paths into a single one for you.
