    Dell Inspiron monitor black screen

I have a Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop. For the past 2 days the monitor has been suddenly dimming to the point that I can not see anything but a very, very faint image. It's essentially blacking out. The funny thing is that all I have to do is close the laptop and reopen it and the monitor is back to full brightness. I have checked all of the power and brightness settings and nothing seems out of the ordinary.

Unfortunately, the frequency of this issue has increased to about every 45 seconds.... any ideas?
    Thanks!!

How old is the laptop? Did you recently install any programs onto the laptop? How long has it been since you have done a reinstall/ restore? This to me sounds like the display is going bad or the actual video device in the laptop is going bad.

This seems like it should be a fairly new laptop. If this is still under warranty I would contact technical support right away and have them step you through a few items and perhaps get a replacement on the laptop.

If not, I would try to reinstall the video drivers for your laptop (at the same time grabbing the latest version). Is your video card in the laptop the ATI RADEON Xpress1270? If its ATI Radeon I would go to the ATI website and download the latest video driver. Before you install the driver file, right click on my computer and select manage. Select device manager and expand the display adapters tree item. right click on the ATI radeon item and select uninstall. reboot and then install using the new ATI radeon driver file.

Thank you for the advice. The computer is about 3 years old and is no longer under warranty. I tried reinstalling the video driver as suggested, but I am still having the issue.

To me it sounds like the display is just going bad and there isn't much you can do about that. Does your laptop have a VGA out? If so get another monitor and connect it up to your laptop and see if that monitor shows the same behavior. You could always try reinstalling windows or trying to repair windows as maybe some sort of windows file is corrupted, but I wouldn't have much hopes of that working.
