    Product Suggestions?
To be honest, I'd just use google to find anything. I've never had to recover data from a drive myself as I've always had backups available.

With the price of HD space as low as it is. You realy should look into having 2 drives with one a mirror of the other. This won't protect you from accidental file deletions but it would have protected you from something like this. A regular burn of important files off to CD or DVD is a good idea as well. You could also plug in a USB based drive and use it do regular backups to.

      Hi, Don!

Well, here's the thing..... I did a lot of research on the internet and found around 14 products that might do the trick - maybe - and all for a price ranging from $49 to $149..... so I downloaded the 'trial' versions, as you suggested.

I got through a couple only to find out they couldn't handle the problem, and then when I was working with Runtime's "DiskExplor er for NTFS" which said it would not try to write to the actual drive, I could 'see' the hex codes and saw which sectors had what on each line, and then when I tried printing the list to a file, the program crashed and the disk was no longer accessible... again...

So I did the xp repair thing and it did not 'see' the disk. Trying the install again saw the partitions long enough to attemp to install but stalled out with an error "setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged. Make sure the drive is switched on and properly connected."

Accessing the install screen on reboot, it saw 4 "unknown disk"s with <there is no disk in the drive> for each, so now it's busted to inaccessible again.

Anyway.... yes.... current systems - I have 2 backup drives... meanwhile, getting some important data from the initial disk is looking more hopeless at this point. I wanted to try and do an image from it to see if it could get reconstructed from that, but it failed before I got to that point. I was never able to clone it from the PowerSuite software I had already had, in the past.

      Thanks again!

FYI, I ran into a similar problem - I purchased a couple of disks from a vendor (30 day warrantee - sent replacements - same thing... lots of clicks) and was about to give up when someone turned me on to EASEUS. Ran EASEUS against the disk (took about 24 hours) and there were options to recover the partition. The program even revealed other partitions on the disk. Got my files back.

          Try HHD Regenerator

Hey guys I have read your post as I had just came up on it in search of some answers to a fix a file, and realized that you should give HHD Regenerator 1.61 which will work in windows or maybe an earlier version that works under DOS. I myself like the windows version and find it has worked for me quiet well. I have installed it on all of my PC's and Laptops. So if I do have a drive failure I pull it out of the computer that it is in and put it in a usb case and run the program.
