FYI, I ran into a similar problem - I purchased a couple of disks from a vendor (30 day warrantee - sent replacements - same thing... lots of clicks) and was about to give up when someone turned me on to EASEUS. Ran EASEUS against the disk (took about 24 hours) and there were options to recover the partition. The program even revealed other partitions on the disk. Got my files back.
