Last time I checked you can’t download Operating systems. Well not legally you can’t.

I would suggest that you look into purchasing this from somewhere, if you can even find a copy of it to buy. If you are downloading it off the internet then its pirated software and I would advise that you do not download illegal software.

That's not quite correct, is it. You normally can't download any MICROSOFT WINDOWS Operating systems legally. With Linux, it's standard practice. :-P

Actually, in some rare cases, you can download Windows legally. If you're at university, check out the MSDNAA Program (although I don't think Win ME is available there any more, as it's pretty old).
I agree of course, that it is a bad idea to download software illegally.

          Hello,

Is it illegal to download OLD Microsoft non supported OSes (e.g. Windows Me)? I tried searching google but could not find anything helpful.

BTW, Do you know that a PC World article dubbed Windows Me the "Mistake Edition"....... ............(as stated on Wikipedia)

          Thanks......... .....

I'm not sure about the actual process of downloading it, but it's certainly illegal to install it, if you don't own a copy & serial number yourself, even if it's some old MS-DOS version, never mind any version of Windows. The only exception would be, if Microsoft'd say "You can have xyz for free now!" (which they won't do, as they want you to buy the newest version ^^).

            Hehe, nice one! :-D

Personally, I'd recommend Windows 2000 if you want an old version. That certainly can be available via MSDNAA (I can access a MSDNAA repository and get Windows 2000 SP4 Professional from there, but I don't know if everyone accesses the same repository) and is one of the better versions of Windows IMHO.
