degrade from vista to xp

I have vista home edition , is it possible to degrade to xp professional. my pc is IBM Thinkcenter

you need to uninstall vista and install XP.

You will need a XP Pro license. You can't use the Vista Home license to run XP Pro

Hello,

Microsoft will not prefer you to degrade from Vista to XP. And so there's no such option in Windows Vista to simply degrade to XP.

First of all, backup all important data on your PC. Then format the drive containing Vista and then install XP on your PC. (Also as DonRayner suggested, you will need a XP license. You can't use the Vista Home license to run XP).
