    Accessing Private Data

    Hello,
I am using windows XP SP2. recently my boot sector got corrupted and i was happen to run a restore operation in that i have selected only to restore my OS. this did perfect without affecting the other files in that partition.
now my problem is i am not able to access my files that i have stored in the desktop before. before restoring i was using a password for that user accound and have made my files private. is there any option to recover those files. I am able to view that accounts folder in 'documents and settings' but when i try to open it i get an error stating you dont have rights to open that folder.
How can i get those files. i know the password of the old account but that accound doesnt even appears in the user accounts in control panel.

    Thanks in advance....

You need to take ownership over those drives/folders/files.

just remember that if you use windows XP home the only way to take ownership and change rights for files / folders is to start up in safe mode.
