Hey, I have heard that Microsoft is cracking down on pirated software. So if you are talking about full system reformatting with Windows Vista, then there might be some problems. A classmate of mine had some trouble with his system. *NOTE* This is just information that he has told me, so I don't know the validity of it, but maybe someone else can confirm. */NOTE* According to him, Vista creates a hash check with your system every time you reformat. Supposedly, after a certain number of reformatting sessions, your copy of Vista is nullified, and your pc becomes useless. Of course, if this is the case, that is not what was intended. Microsoft isn't trying to punish the people who have to reformat multiple times, but rather they don't want the same copy of Vista being distributed to multiple computers.... So just be careful... I haven't reformatted my system yet, so I don't know how true that is, but just be careful not to waste your Vista version.

i heard that the limit is 10 for vista, but if your key doesn't work anymore you call up microsoft and make them give you another key!
On XP I have reformatted sooo many times without a problem. On Vista i haven't reformatted yet, but when I do I'll be switching back to XP. If you have to reformat your PC often you should look into getting a cloning program like norton ghost (one that i use). It makes a clone of your PC so you can quickly restore your pc to that point. So, after I installed windows and the programs that I always had to reinstall (office, nero, visual studios, MOBO drivers, ect.) i made a backup. Then the next time you need to reformat you put in your clone disk and it restores your pc to that point (a lot faster that a reformat). I don't know how this type of program would affect the Vista reformat issue.
