In Options -> Connection Properties. See the connection protocol. Is it default?
If you are using TCP/IP or Named Pipes, you will have to enable it from the configuration tools -> Sql Server Configuration Manager.

I'm not expert, but I'm trying to help.

    Thanks.

You might try a couple of things.
        (1) instead of connecting via local or "." use the DNS name for the machine
        (2) Try running under elevated permissions -- if I recall this has something to do with UAC and the server logins

If this is your first login, try using a SQL Server account to login. Even if the server is configured for Mixed Authentication, you have not added any domain user at this stage.

Login using sa account and add the domain accounts accordingly.

          Good Luck!!!
