    some advice on education please

    Hi,

I am a man of 43 years old and want to make a switch from Finance to IT. My area of interest is web application development. However I am a bit lost in the maze of education available.

Looking at a track like Arius C# (as a basis for MTCE) Microsoft MCTE and subsequently MCSD Web Application developer it might seem to be a good choice.

However I am new in the field and would like some feedback from professional web developers in regard to the educational track to take for a full stack web developer.

I do not have much time and want certifications.

    Thanks.

    Best,

    Erol

Hello, being a web developer preferably learns in their own, Likewise if you love web development it would be easier for you, lots of courses online that you can adopt and make your move in learning. Otherwise you enroll to a school offering an bachelors degree for IT course.

    Hope it helps.
    Goodluck

I agree with the above. You have two options, either learn quickly on your own and start building your public portfolio or go back to college and get at least a BS in Computer Science. Finance to IT is a bit of a gap so switching paths through MS in IT is not the way to go. Since you already have a background in finance, you can also chose a more IT/Business route. I believe it's called Business information management. I know a few people from my previous job that did that. What matters most is being able to sell your IT skills, having good references, and having contacts. Here's a pre-decision challenge. Since the simplest form of web dev is HTML, build an HTML page that has a list of income, essences, savings for a 12 month period. Clue: use tables and then try to style it. Post the code when you are ready and we can advise what to do next. Are you up for it?

For the record, I know thinking of the age could make a person insecure, but food for thought, my dad was in his late 50's when he got his MBA so I am a strong believer in education even later in life. Knowledge is power, write that down.
