Moving from proprietary database to a SQL database help?

Hey all,
I am a young new programmer and one of my first assignments is to move our company's proprietary database to a SQL database, and then to a .net envoriment. The question I have is what would be the best way for me to do so. and if any one knows where I can find more information on this task, and where I can learn more about what the .net frame work is and its importance.

MySQL's LOAD DATA INFILE command is pretty versatile. As long as you can output the data in your proprietary database as a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the advice earlier is has been very helpful thus far. I have written a routine that exports all of the data in our proprietary data base to a CSV file. So should my next step be "create the Database structure" with in the SQL Database, so that I can then use the "LOAD DATA INFILE command"?

I have written a routine that exports all of the data in our proprietary data base to a CSV file.

See if that works; you might have to create a separate file for each table and import them individually. But then, you might not.
