    Can't find setup.php under scripts

    I'm going through an O'Reilly book about learning PHP & MySQL. Everything has been going smoothly, but when I went to install phpMyAdmin to manage MySQL databases I ran into this problem. I downloaded the phpMyAdmin all-languages.zip for windows, unpacked it, and stored it in my root file for my local server. The book then requests that I configure phpMyAdmin by going to http://localhost/myadmin/scripts/setup.php

    The 'scripts' file folder is there, but when you look in it, there is no 'setup.php'. I searched, but could not find this setup.php file.
    I'm using phpMyAdmin 3.1.1

    They use 2.10.0.2 in the book. Will this older MyAdmin version work with PHP 5?
    I assume the reason for the file not being there is because they are using an older version than I am. How can I configure phpMyAdmin to run with MySQL and PHP 5?

          I ended up downloading an older version only because I want to keep chugging along and not get demotivated. I'll go back and install the newer version once I've finished my tutorial. Documentation! Why didn't I look at that before I posted a question. Ignorance is bliss though, right? Thanks for the help.

              Just a little side-note for you, Tharden: I've found it is much easier to use one of the Apache, MySQL (admin), etc., bundles that are available on the tinternet.

              Something such as XAMPP comes with an installer, which installs every component you need such as your server, your phpmyadmin. Everything. And most of the time, you don't have to do a thing - just sit back and let it work.

                  yea, XAMPP was suggested. I probably should have just done that...

                  I'm going to look into that if I can't get phpMyAdmin to work. I got an older version of MyAdmin working fine, but there have been a lot of security and bug fixes between the 2.x versions and the 3.x versions. I'll either upgrade to a 3.x version of MyAdmin or use XAMPP.
