Moving site

Hi,

In the coming weeks we will be moving premises. I have installed new switches, patch panels and telephone system but I am worried about moving the server. In my mind I think it should be as simple as just lifting it and plugging it into the new network. Is there anything I am missing? Some users have VPN connections I would imagine these are going to have to be reconfigured.

You are correct, it should be just as easy as picking it up and moving it. If you are using VPN, I assume that your ISP is supplying you with static IP's and maybe a router. When you go to do your final move, have your ISP involved with the relocation of their hardware and performing any reprogramming of their system to reflect your new location.

Your move should be transparrent to everyone except for the downtime involved with the physical transportation of your servers.

Static IP is changing

I have been informed that I cannot keep my existing static IP. I know I will have to reconfigure my ADSL modem and VPN router to the new static IP address but are there any other changes I should be aware of?

ie. Exchange emails, Symantec Endpoint Protection?

I'm not sure on Symantec Endpoint Protection, but if you are running exchange server you may need to reconfigure the mx records on your dns server.

They may need to contact their ISP to change an SMTP route / Mail Forwarder if they manage an Internal Mail server, unless as you suggested the MX records point directly at it.
