    IP Addressing

Hi all, just a quick question

assuming that there is an availability of IP addresses, what type of a suitable network addressing scheme could be used for the LAN?

    Regards, Joe.

I'm not quite sure what your asking? Are you talking about how you should assign addresses to the LAN (Network Class, Subnetting , VLANS, ect.)? What type of a LAN? What type of security concerns do you have within the LAN? Outside the LAN? Is there sensitive data that certain people should have access to while others do not?

Assuming your network will be under a PAT(meaning you only have 1 routeable IP from your ISP), on a LAN, you usually use private IP addresses that aren't routeable on the internet. The most common LAN IP addresses are 10.0.0.X, or 192.168.1.X. For a subnet you should probably use 255.255.255.0 because that will only allow 254 hosts on that subnet, and if you go above that, you will probably have problems.
