You need the first derivative of that expression in order to perform a NR step.
You either figure that one out yourself or you approximate it as follows:

f'(x) == (f(x+h)-f(x))/h for a small value of h. The NR step is simply:

    x(n+1) == x(n)-f(x(n))/f'(x(n))

    kind regards,

    Jos

The experts on this site are more than happy to help you with your problems but they cannot do your assignment/program for you. Attempt the assignment/program yourself first and post questions regarding any difficulties you have or about a particular function of the code that you don't know how to achieve.

Please read the Posting Guidelines and particularly the Coursework Posting Guidelines.

Then when you are ready post a new question in this thread.

As the OP already told you: you can only have one sixth of it at max.

          kind regards,

          Jos ;-)

Actually, he said somewhere between one third and one sixth. So if we each take a fourth, there's enough for all of us - one for the OP, one for BigDaddy, one for Jos, one for me, and none for r0.

Eating the admin's pie in the public forums is a defenestratable offense.

Sure, what did you think? You started mentioning pies ... and then all those
hungry bastards come flying in ...

                    kind regards,

                    Jos

Actually, it was the OP who first mentioned pies. Wonder if they were actually thinking about pi - that would be a different matter entirely. r0 can have all the pi he wants.

Well sometimes pie can be a transcendental experience. Ha, ha! I'm such a nerd.

Ah, but how much of a nerd? Personally, I think I was a little over 50% on all three - nerd, geek and dork.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, hit the search box up top for "geek test".
