Is anyone fimilar with a cheap service/software that will monitor or even simply ping my site and tell me if its down.. via sms or email.

Ideally you want http requests rather than pinging. This usually handled through dns management - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&n...nt&sa=N&tab=nw
