Text overlay background graphic?

My problem is I need to create CSS that overlays my navigation text on top of the background image so it appears in the correct position (bottom of the stage) in both FF & IE. But also, the background image needs to display on a black color background, like it is now.

It appears ok now, isn't it? I'm seeing the nav links at bottom, on top of the background image (which is a stage).
