    font-size: 100%;

    Hi all

    I've been looking at various style sheets trying to get to grips with
    CSS. I've noticed that some sites use:

    body {
    font-size: 100%;
    }

    What is the point of this rule? When I test in the browsers I have
    access to, it seems to make no difference.

    Comments appreciated.

    It is to initialize the body base size of your page to a value so that
    MSIE will not screw up when you size child elements with a proportional
    value i.e., in "em"s.

      Is that needed for flavours of MSIE >= 6, or is it only earlier ones?

        Needed for 6, but don't know if they fixed it in 7 I am running Win2K.
        MSIE 7 does fix some of IE's CSS deficiencies and bugs but by no means
        all of them.

          Not fixed in IE7.
