    password protection

We have a site and want to sell our software on-line. After paying,
the person is given a code xxEN-XXXXXXXXXX. Always EN in the 3rd and
4th places and always 14 characters long. We then want the customer to
go back the original page and enter this code to access the software
download page. What is the best way to password protect this page? I
can do it on LINUX using CGI but some of the code doesn't work on PC
because some of it is shell instead of all CGI.
    Thanks Much,
    Wayne P.

It depends on the server. Each server has its own way of establishing
    authorized access.
