Why can't you just go to the library and legally borrow it for free?

FYI, Many countries don't have libraries as readily available as Europe and North America. Nor do they have the established habit of reading as a pastime that our culture has.

For example, here in Peru, hardly anyone goes to the library, there are just about zero book stores (maybe one or two in each larger city), and the books that do exist are prohibitively expensive. People who work all day long just to make enough to survive don't have the time or money or energy or desire to sit down and read a good book before falling off to sleep.

Not saying Macedonia is the same, just pointing out that things could be different than you may be used to :-)

        Regards,
        Scott

Fair point and you may well be right in this case. However, there are alternatives to illegal PDF e-books.

I'm with you on that one :-) I've never heard a good excuse for doing something illegal (not a challenge to anyone to see if they can come up with a good one, btw :-)

Just wanted to point out that free and liberal access to a decent library is a luxury that many people don't enjoy.

I am very concerned about it. I have my own high speed DSL and wireless setup. I see many available wireless networks(secure as well as insecure) when I am on my laptop. Some times I get connected to unsecured connections and I use it. I think some other people around my neighborhood have wireless netoworks and their signal are stronger than my wireless at some locations; sometime so I get connected with their instead of mine. I don't even get that , but sometimes keep on using these for hours and do not notice at all. Is this still a crime? I don't know them so I can't tell them to secure their networks.
I think it's their responsibility to proect their networks.

                          I wouldn't worry unduly.
These effects are mainly temporary anyway, and yes, it is really the responsibility of the network administrator to secure their network, at least to a basic degree.
Many people don't understand how to though, so stealing (not accidentally using) their bandwidth is a low thing to do, and certainly not to be encouraged.

I would very much doubt that someone who can play these tricks would be unaware of how to secure their wireless networks such that only a deliberate cracker could get on and steal their bandwidth.

                          In short - I wouldn't worry :)

If you live in the united states, technically using a network that you do not have permission to use is considered stealing. Now the issue is, what constitutes "permission ". If a network has an unsecured wireless access point are they giving everyone implicit permission to use their network? I think so, if you are too lazy, dumb, or don't care enough to secure your network then you are basically giving people permission to use it. However, I never feel comfortable using a network that I don't know the owners of because of all the logging and dangerous information that they can do to your machine if they are very smart.

                            Example: Read me

                              Hi,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Yeah! I totally understand why one doesn't want to keep network secure. We don't keep it secure because we have more than one operators, and we don't like to keep it secure; even don't care if someone else shares the bandwidth.
by the way I am in British Columbia
                              Thanks again
