How to fix sound driver error: 'the device cannot start (Code 10)'?

    Computer - Dell Dimension 3100
    Windows XP SP2 Media centre

When we bought our computer the sound drivers weren't properly loaded, so my husband reloaded them from the internet.

The sound has been working fine now for about a week, but when I turned on the computer this morning there is no sound again.

My husband has looked into the cause and found that the 'Sigmatel High Definition Audio CODEC' is the problem. When we 'troubleshoot' it, it says 'the device cannot start (Code 10)'

I would be grateful for any advice on this problem.

    Thanks

    hi there,

the sound card driver might be corrupted...win dows xp has a system restore that can be used for restoring your previous system configuration. Any application that was installed after the desired date to be restored will need to be installed again...

the device driver for your sound card should come along with your computer so no need to download from the internet.

just make sure to shut down your computer properly and install anti-virus.

    hope this helps. regards.

very possible that installing the latest drivers for the device could correct the Code 10 error.
