I would choose wordpress over joomla. Wordpress is easier to use and has a large supply of plugins and resources.

I think that joomla is the better choice, because it has so many extensions ...

Agreed on Joomla. It's great. I like it. It also has more control over look and feel as well.

2 different CMS, Joomla seems more adaptive and interactive, whereas Wordpress more static.

I think WordPress will be the best choice, as you want it simple and WP is simpler than JOOMLA. I don't think you will need huge extension collection now. So my suggestion is go for WP.

I would also agree with Wordpress. Both have a large collection of extensions/plugins, but wordpress will give a better interface and is more simplicit.

"Simple" is a very vague decision criteria. You should look at CMS Matrix site. You can put some more tangible comparison factors.

Wordpress is more user friendly, however it's better for blogging purposes. Joomla is more likely to webshops and wide-contet websites.
Both cms systems have a bunch of plugins/extensions available for download.

                      I think wordpress.
because wordpress is more easier than joomla.
it is more user friendly as well as its plugin is
                      available.

If you are building portal Joomla. If you are building a blog WP. For anything else I would us Concrete 5.

The answer you are seeking is based on what your intentions are (requirements) for your portal design. Both platforms have their pro and cons and many will argue why to choose one over the other. Your real anser is to first define what you need and then measure that against the platforms capabilities, issues, and known solutions to derive at which one is the better CMS for you.
