Best programming language for game design?

For info on my major for college after im out of highschool, would C++ be the wisest choice for a game designer? If not what language would be best?

C++ is the language of choice for several major video game developers, but it is more important to have a general knowledge of programming concepts rather than knowledge of one system. Studying C++ will give you a slight head start, but make sure to focus on concepts like OOP.

Can you recommend anything that could be of good use to make C++ an easier experince to learn? Seeing how i jumped head on in which im sure there are other things i could have learned to help re-enforce this.

I'd just take your time, make sure you learn what you're trying before moving on to something more difficult. Are you working on your own from a book, taking a class, or some other method?

ATM im only learning from 3 books (1) Dummies:C++ (2) Dummies: Programming Basics (3) C++[supposivly can learn in 24 day] and with what i can from websites. I chose Dummies thinking it was easyer to understand but yet not knowing the what some terms mean its still a bit difficult but slowly im getting there.

i personally am teaching myself from books. i believe i have the "teach yourself c++ in 24 hours" actually . . .

youd be surprised just how much you can find by googling "c++ _____ _____"

i think its also a good idea that you signed on here. i get the general feeling that people like you to find your own answers, but i think that if youre really trying people here would love to help you.

learning c++ in a community like this will definitely be easier that trying to do it on your own.

Wow - I wish all our new members could get this so easily!

Roonie is completely right. We hate giving you answers, and we hate when you don't want to work, but we believe that if you are giving a problem your full effort and are still stuck, that we can give you a nudge in the right direction.

Learning from 3 books at once...wow...no t sure if that would be very good or very bad.

I don't think that is true Ganon, we like giving you "good" answers, the answer that we give might not be the answer that you are looking for but trust me you will be a better programmer for it.

c++ or visual c++ is the best way to go.

Well i thank yall for the help and advise on this and for the three books, its all over basics, just using it to compare and contrast other methods noticing that each book doesn't always tell you to do it the same so I try all type of it and see which seems best and helps to better understand the meanings if looked at from a diff. perspective. I do agree tho with yall's answers on "question" things tho, i only came on here to help make sure im learning what I need to; to make sure that its wut i need for the career id like. Once again thank you for your time ^.^
