    I'm not sure what Pii and Piv machines are, but you can use GCC on both - it runs natively in Linux and through Cygwin in Windows.

        Ha, gotcha! Sorry about that - I've been recovering from a cold ;). Yeah, I would recommend GCC (mostly because it's free).

        Anyone with more experience in Windows compilers have a good one?

          Borland has a commad line one as well. Though I've not used it for years. I think MS has one with IDE which is free. You download the lite VC++ from the MS website.

            I use Dev C++ - it's fairly straightforward . I haven't used any other compilers, though, so I can't comment on its relative benefits/disadvantages.
