can't open report in design view or print preview

hello,

i have a simple MS Access 2003 database for producing reports from multiple tables.

this morning i made a slight change to some text boxes in the report and now i can't open the report. the change i made was to copy some text boxes from one report to this report (for consistent appearance).

there is no response when i double-click on the report inside access. the report will not respond to desgn view, print preview or export and i can't even copy/paste the report in the database. i have never had this problem before.

the report relies on several subreports, queries and tables which all operate correctly.

the database is located on a server, i copied the entire database (18MB only) to my desktop and the problem is still there on the local copy. rebooting the pc does not clear the fault.

i would appreciate some help with this!

Sometimes this happen and with forms also. Don't know exactly your database, but it is fine always to make a backup before you start working with the database (I mean before programming or open the desing view for whatever object). The backup will help you return to previous settings for all reports, ... so that you can start again your work and try it another way.

This usually happens when MSACCESS does not think it has a printer, the default printer is either a network printer or local printer with a problem, at least from MS Office's point of view ;). Try changing you default printer to a LOCAL (not networked) printer that is available. Microsoft XPS Document Writer, Microsoft Office Document Image Writer or PDF writer (Adobe or CutePDF Writer) all usually work.

Considering they last posted over ten years ago they may not see this but it's always good to see that new members can benefit from threads even ten years old.
