    MDE files

    Hi
I'm new to access. I want to create a MDE file, but the option is greyed out on my tool bar. Why is this? Another question I have is, can the database be placed on a server and accesed by different uses with in our office?

    Regards

    Hi

I know the procedure to create an MDE file

1.open the application you have done

2.then in the tools menu ->database utilities->make MDE file

3.your MDE file is created .

and regarding the database i got no idea and would be intrested to know the solution for the same

    Thx

You may have the version of access setup wrong

Yes, its called splitting the database. Dont whatever u do, put the one DB on the network and get users to share that. Not good, easily lead to corruption.
      So I recommend u perform a split

I found a problem the other day when I tried to access the References menu in the VBA window.
        It, too, was greyed out.
I realised, EVENTUALLY, that it was because the access 'Project' was active (not Reset).
No code was actually running, but variables were still in scope.
After resetting my project (from same window), I was able to access the 'Tools' / 'References...' option :)
Try this for your situation to see if it is the same problem.

Exit you your database and then go to Make an mde

          This will be available :)

Another situation where the Make MDE option may be grayed out (I'm told) is if you're running a db from a previous version of Access i.e you have an Access2000 app running under Access2003. It'll run fine like that, but to convert it to MDE you have to first convert the app to the same version you're runnng it under.
