I want to do a fresh installation of MySQL. An old installation make it’s impossible. The problem is that the new installation asks for the current password witch I don’t know before I can set a new root password. How to do?

I coded a windows service in Visual Studio 2005, I have the installer with it.
The registry keys for the service are created in System\controls et001\MyService .
The service is installed with LocalService account.

I just inherited a desktop with ubuntu installed and a bunch of other cool apps. The issue is that the person who gave me the computer accidentally deleted the folder that update manager uses to actually update the programs after one oks updating. Thus, I can't update anything using manager. The folder was called "pool" I think.
