(OT) ISO tool for producing animated GIFs via command line

    Hello out there,
this is OT but maybe some of you were in the past faced with the same
problem: I have lots of sequences of GIF files to combine into
animated GIFs. I can do it 'by hand' with Microsofts Gif Animator, but
given the amount of files I have to process, a tool which can be
controlled from the command line looks much more attractive.

Googling led me to WhirlGif, and I got it compiled (Windows) - but it
appears to not like my GIFs and produces garbage.

Any links will be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards

I am a linux user. I know GIMP has been ported to windows machines but
do not know if GIMPSHOP has. Look for GIMP with some video processing
    functions.

Recently I busted a movie into jpg's for each frame and converted it to
gif's and then into a 35,000 layer animated image. Took about 10 minutes
and most of that was going to get a cup of coffee.

      ImageMagick can do this.

        Hi Dave,
yeah, one hears marvellous stories about Gimp. I hadn't known it had
been ported to Windows - even GimpShop has.
So now I have it installed on my box - it's a bit overwhelming for
someone (like me) who has no background whatsoever in doing image
manipulation. I even found a tutorial on producing animated GIF with
it - must have been written for an older version though, because the
description and screenshots just didn't match.
After 2 hours I gave up, came back here and found the second reply to
my posting, so I had something else to try out. :)[color=blue]

          Hi Toby,
yes, and I even managed to get it to work. It produces some curious
error messages but the results are fine, so I'm a happy camper now.
Thanks and have a nice weekend
