So I got this idea that I should write a simple script for my mom (technologicall y challenged) that when she clicked it would run a few programs (anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) and then shut down the computer. Any suggestions on languages?

I guess I need to work more on the interfacing anyways. Any good tutorials on C++ GUI for windows?

Hello everyone. I'm interested in writing a program that interfaces with the microphone jack on my computer and displays the frequencies on my computer. I know there are programs out there, but I wanted the challenge of writing my own program (No, it's not for class... we don't get to do anything this cool). Anyways... The only language that I'm good at is Java, but I doubt that will help me here, so I was thinking C++ would be better. Any advice...
