i read the file record wise..then,, i stored the records within a linked list..sorted the list...wrote it back to file....but i wana know some other way..

hi.. wht u r goin to do with linked lists..
if u wana insert a node..u can do it simply at three positions
1st at start
2nd at last
3rd at any whre else.
so workout the logic.
