I’ve been using 3ds Max for years, and from what I know, versions before 2016 didn’t need a hardware dongle or a rental plan. If you’re using an older version and run into issues with fixing 3ds Max thumbnail previews, there are registry tweaks and third-party tools that can help. Some versions also had compatibility problems with newer Windows updates, so keep that in mind if you’re running into strange glitches.
