Here's the question, in the most simple form. Should an IDMS database if converted to a DB2 database be normalized? can it be normalized if there are several hundred COBOL applications using the IDMS database, or is the only way of accomplishing the conversion to convert the IDMS to the DB2 and address each data element to mirror the IDMS database so that the COBOL applications do not have to be rewritten?
