I'm attempting to installing Ubunto 7.10 on a Dell Dimension 4400.
After selecting "Install in text mode", the first steps of the installation proceed as expected:
- Choose language
- Choose a country
- Detect keyboard layout
- Scanning CDROM
- Loading additional components
- Detecting network hardware
- Configuring the network with DHCP
- Hostname
- Detecting disks
...

Ubuntu 7.10 install. No disk drive detected

Ubuntu. Can't upgrade anything
When I go to package manager it starts to initialize and then an error message comes up and says:
Could not initialize the package information
A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
