Has anyone come across this? Multiuser Access mdb, maintained in 2007, runs in 2003, spontaneously (or so it seems) generated a 'name1' copy for one specific user session only. The same user subsequently logged into the original copy OK.

About 4 years ago I set up a multi-user Access database which I now maintain in Access2007, but which the users still access through 2003.
It is a single instance mdb, regularly reorg'ed, low concurrency and has been relatively trouble-free over the period.
I do not use a wmd, and operate my own password control system.
Backward compatibility has so far seemed to be OK, but today the system backed itself up, created a wmd file,...
