  • thank you for moving it! Sorry about the confusion.

The Special characters are used for a product key. I guess i should explained it that way so there is a better understanding.
so lets say here is a product code: /HR/U39S03-33
now if a user wanted to do a search for that product id, but he only had the alpha/numeric characters, it would never pull it up. "HRU39S0333 ", so i created that search field, so that...

  • im using mssql, i created that field, so there is a searchable field
    username: Froggy^Man
    Search field: FroggyMan

    Users Search: Froggy^Man

what i do is ignore special characters, and search the searchfield for the match.

  • but see the poroblem with that is, when the user wants to do a search with out the fields it wont find it.
    Database: Swine-?654Man
    Users Search: SwineMan

it wont return any results. Unless there is a way to ignore characters in a MSSQL search.

For a temporary soloution, i created another field that has the user name with out any special characters. and thats what it searches against.
    Original...

Removing Non Alpha Characters before saving?

i have a table that lets say has 3 fields
    ID, NAME, SEARCHFIELD
name can take any character, while searchfield only has the alpha/num characters from name. (eg name: Swine-?6$Man Searchfield:Swi ne6Man)

is there a way i could do this by just passing in the name to a stored procedure?

the reason im doing this, is if a user wants to search a database with only know the word/numerical values he knows. i couldnt...

  • its a built in external drive so i can only issue it via usb.

I kind have my doubts on it being a faulty USB, becasue some of the files are still visable in differant folders. I will have to try the localhost problem. I will also see if i can get a internal HDD to see if we can rule out that problem.

On a side note, is there a differance between AD folder publishing vs shared folders?...

  • the drive is an external drive connected to the server(via usb, no raid). It has share permissions so that the AD users can access it. If i remote desktop on the server the files are visable. I have not tried localhost, because it wont work unless its from the server. All the share files are served off the USB harddrive. But when the problem occurs, i would say 90% or so of the files in the folders are just completely hidden. the rest can be accessed...

  • im using windows 2003k Standard Editiom, with a 15 Key licence. we have 12 users. I checked on how many files open right now, and its around 30-50.

I guess this is not the issue then.

We share over 30-40 folders off the server which has a spare D drive. When this problem occurs. 95% of the files in those folders are missing. When i disconnected all the users the files were instantly back and available. This doesnt...

  • Thank you for your response.

Im 100% positive its no one with access to the server. The share permisions are set to everyone. But the only possible fix is, rebooting the system, which will reveal the files again or to close user sessions via the Admin Panel(MMC). It seems to be more of an issue when a random user is working on a random file. I take it as the amount of files shared via our active directory is too high?(24 max files...

  • thank you for answering.

it doesnt seem to be a disconnect issue, because some files are visable in differant folders

    d:\share
    d:\everyone
example i might be able to see the files in share. but not in d:\everyone\fil es\ all users have the same problem when it does go missing randomly.. it will work for 1-3weeks with out problems. Im not sure if its home path related, cause that is left on default...

Win2k3 Shared Files Disappear, but still there!

We have a AD running on win2k3. We have many shared folders. Ive noticed that once in a while users will call up and report the folders missing. To fix the issue i would reboot the system. And vola files visable to all users. Just recently i found another soloution and that was to disconnect all users on the shared folders in my admin panel. Again, vola users can see the folders!

What kinda issue is this? Seems like when to many users...

Active directory user display name incorrect!

I recently changed 3 Users (login, first, last name, and job position) on our active directory. This was about a week ago.. they all can login fine, but when lets say the first user opens a file and any other user opens it it will say file in use by "joey". Problem is joey doesnt exsist anymore, his account is disabled and really it should be the user named "janis" and this is one of the 3 users that i changed.

  • Mixed mode? Active Directory with 1 non AD computer

    Well heres the set up.
theres an AD set up in the office, every one has a login. now theres one folder lets call it g:\share in the AD server. right now, everyone must be logged in to view that folder.. but theres one PC that does not use AD, because 3 people share that pc (used to input small stuff). Id like that local computer have access to that folder with out loggin into AD. now is this possible? Ive tried playing around settings trying...

    Moving SQL server to another

    Hello,

When i try to use DTS, i get major problems copy over.. infact it give me a error when trying to copy all objects.. ive tried everything! only way ive copied the tables and stored proc. is by generating scripts using server enterprise.
